Mayer resolution saves Rural Transit

A resolution offered by Allen Mayer at the April County Board meeting made available funds to keep Peoria County's rural transit system operating. Mayer's resolution balanced the new authorization for rural transit by delaying two non-essential capital projects -- new carpet in part of the courthouse and a road resurfacing.

As the Journal Star explained rural transit "is used by about 150 individuals each month... with most of the riders using it to reach physicians’ offices, dialysis treatment centers, work or shopping."

The resolution passed 15-3 with a bi-partisan majority.
